And it's just hair, it will grow back. I'm a fan of a puppy cut on Maltese... after having mine in a long coat for a while I won't do it again because it was torture on him to be groomed for an hour everday. I had to have Tuffy stripped a few months ago because he just got really matted beyond repair after being boarded briefly. It was shocking at first to see him sooooo short.. he looked a lot like Chiquito. But in a few weeks his hair started to come in again and he looked adorable and that's the length I try to keep him in.
