Default breeder

Why not ask for a vet reference and then speak with the vet. If you ask a vet if they would purchase a dog from a breeder, it will give you alot of insight.
6 month is not enough, but it is what it is...and a deposit on an unborn pup is risky...BUT if you get good feedback from the vet and the deposit is refundable if the pups are not what you are looking for..then you are risking nothing.
If the breeder makes you take a pup or lose the deposit, I would pass. I never forced anyone to take my puppies..I think these things tell you the type of ethics the breeder adhers to in these cases..good luck
