You shouldn't hesitate because of distance. Just ask Kathryn. Her little Paris flew from Pittsburgh to Ontario CA with no problems. It's always better when you can pick them up, but that's not always possible. I received Gizmo from a breeder in Louisiana via air cargo. He arrived fine. Yes, there are horror stories out there, but they are the exception, not the norm. Besides that, I won't ship until they are at least 12 to 16 weeks old, depending on the development and size of the pup.
