I've read some bad things about Dean Rankin, but haven't personally tried his methods.
I understand YOUR logic about the poop and pee going in the same place, but unfortunately, dogs don't generalize that well. Poop and pee are separate events for them and may have no connection whatsoever in their minds. This is what I would do: I'd pick up a piece of your pup's poop with a pad and then get rid of the poop. I'd then leave down the pad that smells a bit like poop. See if that helps. You might "baptize" a few pads at the time! LOL!
