YES!
Your vet should not even give you the Heartworm Prevention Medication without performing the test. If you give the meds without testing you can kill you dog!
If infested and you treat with a preventive.... You dog has a very poor chance of surviving.
Thats why you test before treating in the first place.
Better safe than sorry. Its not an expensive test, just do it.
