Yep, we are a chicken wire family too!

We had to put it around our fence (both wood and chain link) when we got a Jack Russel terrier. We put in flat on the ground a foot out from the fence and staked it down with tent stakes and then made it go at a 90 degree angle up the fence about a foot and stapled it to the wood fence and used plastic zip holder on the chain link fence. We had to have it out a foot in front of the fences so the Jack R couldn't dig under. It works GREAT! the grass has now grown up and you can't see it on the ground - the only problem is that the grass grows up behind it next to the fence - so if you are really fussy about the way your yard looks, you might not like it - but it works like a charm to keep little dogs where they are supposed to be!
Now, when Rowdy was a baby, he could squeeze through the holes in the chain link fence

so we had to watch him like a hawk - but thankfully, he soon got too big to do that trick.
