I have groomed my own Shihtzu for 4 years now. I am looking forward to doing my Yorkie. I took a basic grooming class. The woman was fantastic. She allowed us to take our own dog and only had 4 dogs to a class. I bought an expensive set of clippers and practiced lots. I use a blade that gives my shihtzu a puppy look cut. My Yorkie is almost 5 months so I will probably give him a haircut in a month.
