If you are worried about bows being tooo girly (which i don't think they are) then you could just put his hair up with a plain band with no bow attached. Then you could have the best of both worlds.
But remember that not everyone thinks of dogs as more than a pet. You'll never be able to change that, all you can do is agree to disagree. It's your baby, and you will do whatever you wish with him. If they don't like how you have him dressed, his hair done, etc. then you could tell them that "you can respect that they don't like it, but you would appreciate it if they could respect that it is how you like it." How can they argue with that? It's respectful but gets your point across! Good luck!!!!!
