Well, I think it is a good idea for 2 ewasons...
A couple of years ago I worked for a vet and there was a couple that came in with a Chihuahua that they accidentally hit but it was still alive. they first thing we did was scan for a chip and it had one! We were able to notify the owners and all was well in the end. And yes the dog lived!

The other angle is that when Katrina hit they were able to identify many pets because of the chips. Then when they were posted on the found portion of petfinder reunion were expedited. Shelters are trained to scan them first.

It may not find ALL pets because some people may not know about it yet BUT it is gaining in popularity. My furbabies are getting them next month.
