Congratulations, how fun!
Here's what I have to offer:
Don't be suprised if they take a few days to actually want to play with eachother, although they may play fine from the start. My maltese is a year old and it took about 3 days before they really liked eachother. She had to scope out the puppy and see what was going on first. The older one can do little dominance things to the puppy too. As long is it is not hurting the puppy you should probably just let them work it out but stay close in case things get too rough.
I feed mine in their crate so I know who's eating what and how much. Works out well for me.
My maltese was totally potty trained and was a big help teaching Tinkerbell how to scratch the door when she wants out. However the last couple of days I think my puppy is teaching my maltese how to potty inside! She has gone in the house 3 times the last couple of days. So I'm going back to the basics. Every time puppy goes out so does Chloe. So I guess it is reinforcement to the older one. And I think the older ones can get jealous and that may be why Chloe has had "accidents".
Good luck! It's so exciting bringing a new family member home isn't it? |
