How exciting!!! I taught speech for 3 years and loved listening to the persuasive presentations! Make sure to organize using Monroe's Motivated Sequence (if you need help PM me, I'd love to) so you have a solid persuasive foundation. Also be well versed in both sides of the argument so you won't get slammed with questions.
What about doing a speech on why animal cruelty laws should be more strict? The recent story about the pit bull could be included as well as the story from a few months ago about the man in NYC who threw the dog out the apt. window, and also a story here in Albany about a couple who could not afford to care for their puppies so they killed them. You could get info on the legal action taken against these people and why the laws are not what they should be.
Just an idea.....I'm sure I'll have a ton more for you
