My apartment complex allows pets but the deposit was $500! So we hid our Maltese from them for over a year before we finally decided to pay the deposit. Our biggest issue with hiding him was that maintenance would just show up to do random stuff like changing the filters without any notice and Tuffy loves to bark when someone knocks so that was pretty scary. Whenever I did get notice that they were going to do something I would just take him to the park and we would just hang out for a while and then head back home. My sister also was hiding her dog and the apartment complex did find out and told her that she was in violation of her lease. They told her that she had 24 hours to either get rid of the dog or pay the deposit.. so naturally she paid the deposit. Now we have our Yorkie and I don't want to plunk down another $500 for her so we are going to try and hide her as long as we can. The thing I hate about having to hide is that everytime I hear someone coming up the stairs I freak out! I'd say if she has to give you notice that she'll be coming by then you'll have time to hide your dog before she does.. and if she shows up unannounced then she'll be in violation of your contract as much as you would be for having the dog so maybe you'd have an argument there. Good luck!
