Your experience should be a lesson for a lot of other people. We certainly can overprotect our little guys and not give them opportunities to be around other people and dogs.

I, for one, don't haul my dog around with me much - but he does have a lot of company here - and we visit my neighbors, friends, and relatives at their houses. He totally loves other people and every dog he has met so far.

I took him to PetCo once and had him on a leash - but he wanted to go home with everyone he met. So, he rides in the cart now (which is probably better for him anyway).

I have always encouraged people to step up and visit with my dog...even pet him. We have never been where I thought this might be dangerous or unhealthy. And, he thrives on it!
