i think that's one common mistake for dog owners. "housebroken" in your house doesn't mean "housebroken" everywhere. this is especially true when they're indoor trained as opposed to outdoor trained.

bunjee is indoor potty pad trained. at home, he knows where the potty pad is, and will go to it for potty, with or without me. at my parent's house, he's not familiar with the layout of their home, so he'll use the potty pad if he see it, but otherwise he'll just find a spot he likes and just do it. he won't go looking for a potty pad.

so when i'm in someone else's home, i have a belly band on bunjee, just in case. better yet, instead of him dictating when he wants to go, i tell him when he should go and he'll do it on command. so in the case of my parent's home, as soon as we arrive, i lay down a potty in his area and tell him to "go potty". once he does, i give him praise and a treat. i monitor how much water he's drinking and how active he's being, and after 2-3 hours, i lead him to the potty pad again and tell him to "go potty". if at anytime he doesn't pee on command, then a belly band goes on and i try again in 30 mins. i keep an eye on how he's doing starting about 30 mins after he has a full meal to see if he needs to poop and keep a potty pad near by so he can see it and know where to go.

the last time we were at my parents, bunjee was trying to play with the cats, running and jumping and barking at them and the cats are just watching as if he was crazy. it's been 30 mins since he ate so i had a potty pad near by. at one point he was trying to steal a toy from one of the cat's possession and i thought he was making a break for the toy, when i find him run pass the toy, and to the potty pad for a quick poop, impatiently waited for me to wipe, then back to the toy he went. my brothers, cousins, and hubby were quite amazed and i was quite proud.
