Is your little baby roaming the house freely while you're away? It helped to confine my baby Oliver until he knew to use his litter box. When I WAS home he would still be limited to the room I was in and have access to the bathroom. Every 15 or so minutes I would have him follow me into the bathroom (that way he learned where it was in the house) and I said "go potty" and waited. If he didn't go I kept an eye on him and kept running him back and forth. When I wasn't home he was confined to the bathroom and learned to use the litterbox.
As far as growling goes- it's a rule in the house that whenever someone new enters the room Oliver must be introduced. The person (even if it's my boyfriend who LIVES with us) must pick Oliver up and let him smell him (or even if it's just a hand) until Oliver calms down. Also you could try letting your boyfriend reward your baby for tricks or taking him for a walk or feeding him. Those are bonding experiences that will help the two get along.
I hope that helped! Best of luck!!!
