A dog that is registered with AKC can be registered with other registries but the last time I looked at AKC you can not register a dog that is registered other than AKC with AKC. My yorkies parents were both AKC and I have their # but AKC will not let me register my dog with them because the breeder didn't register the litter AKC. I hope this answeres your question.
