Believe it or not, 99% of the times my dogs came down with limping issues were caused by an acorn shell getting stuck on a toe pad, lol. Silly but they can be very difficult to see.
Paws are definitely important to check first. I have had just a mat in-between paw pads, ice/snow, a hornet sting, and a bad nail or no nail when Callie ripped one of hers off
