I would only consider it in a very young pup. The surgeon I use recommended that to me years ago .... I have had many pups with LP who died with LP and never tore a ligament. I have also had many who tore a ligament and the LP was repaired at that time. It is something no one can predict. They don't have a way to visualize that ligament or have any idea if/when it will tear.

As Taylor said, you can repair LP and then the pup can tear that ligament and you are out money for another surgery and the poor pup had to have two surgeries.
