I have always been told its best to be a bit early letting them go then waiting to long. That's what I did with Callie which was to try and not drag it out even if it meant a few days or weeks early. Callie told me when she was ready and I'm not sure I could really explain it. She stopped taking her meds, was sleeping in the dog toys but not at night, there where times she was a bit confused and the Cushings was eating her to death where she went from a chubby happy 18 pounds most of her life down to 12 pounds. She was tired of fighting and I just saw it in her eyes.
