My 14 year old Yorkie, Bitsy was just diagnosed with diabetes after a bad case of pancreatitis. The ICU vet sent her home with Humulin N, but after 3 weeks of spikes, I switched to Lantus, long-lasting insulin. Well, as it turns out, Lantus stings like crazy, so I had to abandon that very expensive insulin after less than a week. So now I'm on Vetsulin (as of yesterday) and I'm finding that it's well-behaved for the most part, but allowed a spike to over 400 at 3:00AM. It also seems to last only 4 hours (1u given 2x/day) for a 4.5lb pup.

Any experience/advice with insulins would be appreciated.
