Early Renal Disease We just took our baby (10 years old) in for a teeth cleaning and the blood test they did first, showed that his BUN was elevated (50) along with a couple other items. They said he had signs of very early kidney disease and sent us home with 2 weeks of an anti-biotic and some new food - Royal Canin Renal Type A (aeromatic) to try. Apparently, all renal food has much less protein (about 12%), which makes it easier on the kidneys. We also picked up Royal Canin Renal Type F (flavorful) that tastes like chicken, as opposed to the vegey taste of the Type A. We took him off his old food (Fromm's Senior and Reduced Activity) after a day and initially, he ate the new Type A along with a green bean or two, which he always has in his dish. The last couple of days, he is not eating much of the kibble - concerning, but he could stand to lose a pound or so! Anyone using this food for their kidney problems? If not, what food does your baby prefer? We want to "force" him to eat Renal food, which (hopefully) will help him. He goes back in about 10 days for another blood test to see where he stands. Thanks! |
