Everyday on the average there are over 300 Yorkies on petfinder alone for the US. Today on petfinder there were over 29000 dogs available for adoption. This does not always include many private Yorkie rescues or breeders that have rescues. I guess in my book, 1 Yorkie in rescue is 1 too many but sad to say this number will grow with the popularity of this dog. The Yorkies popularity was usually on both the coasts (Maine to Florida/Washingto to California) and is moving inland. It was very rare to see small dogs in the midwest but this has started to change along with many of the western states. As people have become more mobile in their lives they have downsized their dogs so instead of the ever popular big dogs you are starting to see many small dogs.
