To be honest, there is nothing wrong with feeding wet food. It's not "unhealthier" than kibble. Some commercial canned foods are maybe higher in fat, so something to watch out for, but often times IMO canned food is better than kibble and easier on their system to digest. If you want to switch to solely kibble for cost reasons - certainly you can. But mixing in wet food is not going to make them unhealthier so if they like it, I wouldn't be worried about continuing doing it.
To keep them healthy as possible, I'd focus on regular veterinarian visits (2x a year at least, for seniors), general bloodwork to keep an eye on things, daily tooth brushing, feed a properly balanced food (which RC is), keep them lean and fit and on daily walks or another form of exercise. |
