Technically, at five she’s considered a senior (even though she should have many, many healthy years ahead of her), so her metabolism may be slowing down a little. Does the food you use come in a low calorie or low activity variety? Sometimes that is better than reducing portion sizes.
On the exercise, is there something you can do inside to burn up some excess calories? I haven’t been taking Jax out much because of the weather (and, really, he walks so slowly outside — investigating every pebble, weed, and blade of grass — that it barely counts as exercise), but he will chase a squeaky ball inside until he drops from exhaustion. |
