A spray bottle with water works. I used this with Gidget when she was younger. When she was barking for no apparant reason, I would spray her and the barking would stop. She soon learned what the bottle meant. If she was barking and saw me pick it up, she stopped barking immediately. Then I would tend to her -- pick her up, make sure she had plenty of water in her bowl, etc. It worked and didn't hurt her and didn't involved giving her a treat or a toy or something to distract her from barking. |
