I totally agree, Matese! A thousand years ago my German Shepherd and I were staying with my folks for a few months. My sister visited and said, "Dana, Tiger is getting fat!" And I did a double-take and she WAS...! My mom, who is an avid animal lover had been treating my dog to a bite of ice cream every night. Well, make that two bites (vanilla, caramel swirl) that were actually scoops of ice cream. As soon as I mentioned to Mom that Tiger's health would suffer from being overweight (hip dysplasia and the like), poor Tiger found herself in Teddie (mom) boot camp and promptly dropped 10 pounds! Our animals' weight is something we can usually control. And by doing so, improve quality of life.

I just ran into my neighbor with his mastiff and said his dog looked exceptionally good; he told me he'd lost a ten pounds and not only looked "cut" (so funny), but was acting like a puppy again!

Piper is a rock-solid, active 10 lbs. Animals need to be lean and active--just like with people, I think they do and feel much, much better.
