As for antihistamines, I have never had them work well. My vet uses Cytopoint which is almost like a miracle. The injection runs around $35 but usually lasts for up to two months. I have one pup who only gets about 4/year. My vet has not prescribed Apoquel (I personally won't use it because it is immuno suppressive and so far, have been very lucky with the Cytopoint).... Cytopoint alone has been wonderful plus Convenia if there is bacterial infection along with the skin issue. The more they scratch the more likely they are to get an infection.
I presently have 3 allergy pups. One is my own, the other two are fosters. Each is different.
Has your vet done a skin scraping and viewed under a scope? |
Thank you. If it is more likely environmental I was hoping it would calm down more as we are approaching the winter months, but it hasn’t seemed to let up for him as of yet. The vet did suggest that it could be environmental as well.
The vet has not done a skin scraping either. Is that something I should request of them?
Also his food bowl for the wet food was plastic but I recently changed it to a ceramic bowl
