I called my vet, she reduced the Cervical and Double P II to Cervical once in the morning and the Double P II once in the evening, and gave me Metronidazole to stop the diarrhea. That was working out, stool had form, no more blood but was sticky. The Metronidazole was finished on 9/1, on 9/2 diarrhea started, 9/3 diarrhea was worse. 9/4 his follow up appt. was for 5:30 PM. I had written a note to my vet about the diarrhea returning so I was given a 2-week supply of Metronidazole again. When the tech bought him back to the car, she tells me if he is not in pain I can stop the Rimadyl as that causes loose stool and may help cut down on the diarrhea. Cody was on it for 11 days, I decided to stop giving it to him since he appeared to be in no pain while he was on it. The nx day Sat. the 5th I gave no Rimadyl, gave him Metronidazole, Cervical and Double P II as prescribed, his evening poop was diarrhea. Sun, the 6th, diarrhea was getting worse, Mon. The 7th really loose diarrhea by evening. Mon. the 7th diarrhea same very loose at least no blood in it. Last night I feed him, he gets a canine Dermal support ¼ tsp sprinkled over his food, been getting this 6 years, it’s a supplement. He refuses it, now for my dog to not eat, there is something wrong. So I give him a bowl without the supplement, he is hesitant and walks away. 30 minutes later he eats it, but I can see he’s not happy with it but he was hungry.
This morning his poop was liquid and he would not eat. His food was down 4 hours and he still had not eaten.
My vet is not coming in this week until Friday (there are two other vets there one I know for years and I don’t like her at all and do not trust her in diagnosing, many years ago she changed one of my girls meds which caused my baby to have a seizure, I was working, I don’t know if she had seizure’s while I was working. As soon as the seizure was over I called the vets office, told them what just happened, told them I didn’t know if it was her first one or if she more while I was at work, the tech told me that vet should not have changed the meds. to Prednisone, he said bring her in right away. In a snow storm at 7:30PM with white knuckles I am rushing her in for ER where she was kept overnight for observation. For this reason I don’t want to ever use that vet again, the 2nd vet is a new one, because of the pandemic I have not seen this vet, again, I would prefer to not use him.) So at 9AM I send my vet an email about this, also wrote I was not going to give Cody any of the meds until I heard back from her. Cody was crying to eat yet he wouldn’t touch his kibble, he took one out of the dish and left it in the living room floor. This is a new bag I opened last night when he wouldn’t eat the kibble with the supplement on it, exp. Date is 2021 so it’s a fresh bag.
I boiled a chicken cutlet, made rice and offered him that, he gobbled it up, I put 2 tbsp of broth in his water because he has not been drinking his regular amount of water, he drank ½ his bowl.
When I sent the email to my vet I was extremely upset and scared, if my dog refuses to eat there is something wrong with him.
I gave him no meds this morning. About 1PM I took him out to the deck, he makes a small amount of poop, diarrhea but the end part appeared to be starting to take form, I will know better when he poops again. I left his bowl of kibble down, he ate the chicken and rice about 10AM, from 10 to 1PM he picked at the kibble, he had a lot of chicken and rice so he couldn’t have been very hungry but at least he was picking and eating a kibble or two. I am not as scared and worried now as I was before he ate the chic / rice. The vet has not replied to my email so far, it was her birthday 9/4 the day of his follow up, she may be out of town for BD and holiday mini vaca IDK. What I do know is, he is staying on the chic/rice, I am not giving him meds. If I have not heard from my vet by Friday I will call the office and tell them what went on and what I have been doing.
Cody’s spirits have lifted since he ate, maybe it’s also from holding back on the meds. I am now concerned about not giving him the Cervical and Double P II, the tech was adamant about keeping him on it until the next follow up which is on 9/18. I pray I am not doing him more harm but, I cannot let this diarrhea continue. |
