I am so sorry to hear about Whimsy. I had a much older little guy who had kidney damage due to contamination of dog food, but that was years ago. The vet did offer some treatment plans (prescription food and saline IV treatments), but my Elmo's quality of life did not justify forcing him to eat food that he hated, and giving him IV treatments several times a week at his advanced age. Whimsy is a much younger guy, and he may respond to treatment well...I have heard of dogs who adjusted to treatment plans and were able to live for many more years. Also, things may have advanced since we had to face this.
