Sounds like your sweetie Gus is that mix I mentioned. I've had every kind of personality type with the rescues and fosters and usually found the more independent types to have less drama over things that happened to them but those needy little lovebugs often stole my heart the first hour they were here. My first Yorkie, little Scotty, was a huge lovebug and the reason I had to stop fostering or taking in rescues as he couldn't manage my showing any other dogs affection. Had some fosters like that, was so hard to tell them goodbye to their new home. Also had a huge GSD and a Dobie just as affectionate, eager to show it years back.
But oh how quickly Scotty, first Yorkie I ever saw in person, took me in! First hour I got him home he climbed right into my lap, pressed his tiny, bony little head up into my chest as if to get as close as he could after wetting my chin with his kisses, sighed heavily and lay down to sleep right in my lap at age 12 1/2 weeks. He owned me from that moment on, took great pains to seek me out, show affection. My Jilly was that wonderful mix, Tibbe quite independent and stand offish until he knew he totally owned me, about 5 - 6 weeks in. He was 9 mos. when I got him w/a terrible history of living those 9 mos. alone in a crate outside under a shed,! I adored each of them.
