Susan is correct that a nine week old, 19 ounce puppy is too young & small to have left his breeder. However, realistically, I suspect that a breeder who sold a puppy at that age and size wasn’t much concerned with what was best for him and isn’t going to be much help to you now. That being the case, you should follow your vet’s advice as to what is best for him.
When I got Jax at 12 weeks and 26 ounces, the (backyard) breeder had been offering him Purina puppy chow, which was far too large for him. I switched him to Science Diet Small Paws puppy kibble, which he could eat and which he liked (and still likes). I also gave him canned food three times a day, which I reduced to twice a day at four months and then once a day at around six months. He gets the kibble “free feed” — ie, he has it available all day (but not in his crate at night). You should also have something like Puppy Nutrical on hand, in case of hypoglycemia. If your baby has an attack of hypoglycemia, it is a life or death emergency and needs to be addressed immediately.
