While I understand what you are saying, Duchess has been eating off the floor for the last 7 years without any encouragement from me. She's a vacuum cleaner. When I eat, she stares at the floor waiting for me to drop something by accident.

It's just me in the house and as long as I have had animals (my entire life), I have never been able to stop them from eating off the floor or ground. When I am outside I try to watch watch her to make sure she doesn't put anything in her mouth but in the house it's just me and I typically don't bring any food in the house they may be toxic to them.
