Joan, that sounds excruciating! But so many otherwise reputable medical/veterinary clinics mostly seem to be the same these days - chronically too busy, too little staff. Patient demand at a clinic usually dictates how the day goes and one single patient's sudden, dire situation can derail the whole schedule while other anxious patients and family wait in reception or at the other end of the phone line. I'd be calling just like you did after all that time. Yikes! Can't imagine what images your nerves called up while you were distraction-shopping and the clock ticked on and on. Thank God Cody is fine and safe at home. Hugs!
