Default Senior Yorkie with Kidney and GI Troubles

First time posting here. Any experience with these issues or advice would be really appreciated!

My wife and I have a senior yorkie of 15.5 years. She was diagnosed with kidney disease and had a 2.5 day long bout of passing mucous covered loose stools with streaks of bright red blood. We took her to the vet and they weren't able to determine the cause of the blood covered stools (negative for parasites) and prescribed the antibiotic metronidazole for the stools and a phosphate binder to help her kidneys.

She took one days worth of the metronidazole and phosphate binder and immediately stopped eating, drinking any water (which she never does!) or passing any stools (although she was still alert and energetic). We were alarmed and stopped the metronidazole immediately which the vet agreed was the right call. The vet thinks it's related to nausea although she didn't throw up.

About 12 hours after the last dose of the metrodinazole, she drank water and ate (although less than she normally does). She's sleeping a bit more today and hasn't passed a stool in about 30 hours.

Has anyone had any similar experiences or things we should watch out for? We may bring her back to the vet or the ER for more fluids if she doesn't drink enough today. Thank you!
