Based on information from the Americans College of Theriogenologists, I decided to have my Boxer spayed at 1 year instead of 6 months. Sex hormones play an important role in development.
I think Dr. Jeff is a great person who does so much good for animals. That said, I would not go to a vet with such blanket policies. All dogs are different. And in all honestly, the standard of care at his practice is way below anything I would consider acceptable for my pets. |

I watch the show and enjoy it. I think he has all good intentions and it's great for the folks who otherwise wouldn't receive care for their pets but it's not the standard I would prefer for my animals.
I also agree with larger breeds waiting until at least 1 year to alter. Goldens I'd probably wait until closer to 2.
I JUST saw the episode last night where he had a 4 month old Basset puppy in for an obstruction and he neutered him because he said "all patients that come through this door are required to be S/N before they leave" or something to that nature. I just don't agree with an animal who has already been through something physically traumatic and then neutering them right away? No.
I also hate when I see animals right out of surgery just chilling on the ground on a towel - not in a cage, etc. I think it used to be done due to their lack of space which, fine, I get. And some dogs would be fine with this. But I don't know... I just... don't feel comfortable with it.
At least he's significantly better than Dr Pol.
