When it is extra cold or snowy out, I put a sleeved sweater on her under her waterproof lined coat. It keeps her warmer, and the snow from getting tangled and balled up in her hair. Many times <winks and laughs> She will be on her "Sniff and Poop" and I am ready to go in.....and I think.... Maybe I dress her tooooo warmly! <jk of course>
We live on 10 acres with acres of Faaaaarrrmmm Land all around us. I too keep Katy on a leash at all times. It's not so much I don't trust her, it's that we have a LOT of Wildlife near us, and she could be gone in seconds! Nothing I could do about it. |
My 3rd yorkie at one year old got away from me on a camping trip and headed for the woods, she was faster then a speeding bullet, I went off chasing her through the woods crying and calling her knowing I couldn't catch up to her, I paused to grab a branch then shouted Schnae fetch, she stopped, turned, looked at me and I tossed the branch past where I was standing, I grabbed her as she flew past me. I am telling you, these dogs are fast runners. After that experience I always wrap the leash around my hand twice. This lil guy I now have is a runner but also very well trained in commands, but that is not to say if he gets focused on something and gets away from me he would stop and come back to me on command. I am very, very careful when on walks and have a 6 foot leash rapped twice around my hand.
