. It sounds like Maya is what I call your “heart dog”, that one special dog that reaches you like no other ever before or after. You are lucky to have shared many years with her.
Our heart dog was Booger the Boxer. We made the decision to let her go and end her suffering at age 15 back in 2010. I am still grieving over Boo and still shed tears- I expect I always will. But with me, and hopefully with you eventually you will have memories that will make you smile through the tears. Then one lucky day you will realize that there are more smiles than tears.
