Food ugh Food food food will be the death of me lol. Well Callie has been suspected of having IBD for 5 years but we never got the biopsy done we just switched her over to prescription food which was Royal Canin Small Breed Hydrolyzed protein and it seemed to go well. All four of mine have been eating it. Well Joey who is 3 ever since going on it had off and on stomach issues, Penny has always had anal gland issues and Ollie mostly did fine. Callie though was starting to be gassy a lot with off and on tummy issues. Well after not being able to find a reason in testing for Joeys issues I researched the food. Its main ingredient is Soy which apparently can be intolerant in lots of dogs. I felt very good that the soy had to be the issue. So feeding all four something different just wasn't going to work because all of my dogs are pickers so the dog food stays down all the time. Taking this into consideration Callie pretty much likes everything, Joey isn't huge on beef or fish, Penny has to have small bites and Ollie is just plain picky he hates chicken and fish. I wanted to go something more of what I would think of natural and limited ingredient and of course had to have all the specifications above. Well we tried Natural Balance Duck small bites every one but Ollie loves it and Joey really loved it, then we tried Wellness limited ingredient Salmon small breed and Callie liked it but not really anyone else. I was getting a bit stressed and frustrated. After talking to my dad he reminded me what I always say which is what seems natural or better for us humans is not necessarily whats best for them. So I found Royal Canin Small Digestive Care which every one seemed to really like although Ollie was still my hold out. I gave it a few days. He likes to go sneak bites when he is playing so we played ball and after seeing his siblings go and take some food he finally did and then started scarfing it down! My hold out gave in! They have all been eating it for about 2 weeks and everything seems to be going well. Joey is having no tummy issues and Callie's gas is down and no diarrhea from anyone. I really hope this works well. I have always been a huge fan of Royal Canin so I don't know why I didn't just go ahead and try it first. The nice thing is Petco carries it so I don't just have to rely on shipping it to me. It is a little cheaper then the prescription food but that is just a bit of an extra thing. I am using the duck food as treats for Joey because he really really loves it. It's so hard picking a food for one dog let alone four but I hope this will work well. I am no way against prescription food it saves many many dogs lives and even Callie's when her stomach was very bad.
