I know how exhausting and frustrating it can be with dogs sick with one thing after another. Cody had Giardia about 4 years ago. He's 100% house broken, will not use pads. I had him pooping on the deck when he had Giardia then cleaned the area with a solution of Clorox mixed with water to disinfect where ever he pooped. I kept him out of the yard until he was back to normal.
Cody is also a poop eater but I am home and let him out and picked it up and cleaned right away. Thumper being a poop eater may cause longer treatments to fully clear up the stop dog from eating their poop .
Just a heads up, giving some pineapple does not work for every dog. I had Cody on Dole frozen pineapple for 2 months and he still ate his poop, but it's worth a try, a lot of members were successful using pineapple. They also sell a power to sprinkle on dogs food that is supposed to help them from eating their own poop. You will have to google to see what is right for your dog.
You can't stop walking them, it's just not fair to the dogs.
Do not let them sniff other dogs poop, watch they do not pick things off the street and put in their mouth. I am sure this you did before the Giardia, just be a bit more vigilant.
When I had my pack of 3 they were all house broken and walked before I went to work, and when I came home. I watched 2 things, 1-was for cars because we walked in the street, not on the sidewalks, 2-watched my dogs like a hawk because I had one Diva that put everything in her mouth, none of these dogs ever had Giardia.
I am glad Thumper is showing signs of recovering and hoping soon you will get a bit of relief.
Just a thought, the rescue you were fostering, you may want to call the adopter to have them have a stool sample tested by their vet, it's a possibility that rescue had Giardia, not all dogs show signs, Cody had no signs what so ever. Every month I drop off a fresh stool sample at my vet, this is how the Giardia was found. If that foster did not have it he may have caught it from Thumper.
Back to the walking, you can use Pampers Baby Wipes, the original not scented to wipe off their pads after their walk, I am not sure if this will kill the Giardia parasite. I use it to clean Cody's butt, wee wee and his pads because sometimes he steps in his pee, I don't need pee pee paw tracks on my kitchen floor.
