I recently read an article that said giving both Heartworm and Fleam medication like Simparica and Sentinel was overkill. (Full disclosure this was from a holistic vet) I looked into it and at Thumper's annual vet appointment ask him why the two medications since they seem to work the same.

He explained that the Sentinel does help with fleas it does not prevent ticks or kill adult fleas so for the time being both need to be given as a combo.

I did ask him if there will ever be a medication that combines both Heartworm, flea and tick and he said they are working on it but it will take time to get through the FDA as it needs to 100% effective before approving it.

He said just using a Heartworm vs. a flea/tick is not 100% effective so the combination is better.
