Default Keeping 1 or 2 pups from a litter?

Hi everyone,

I have a question about how to choose a puppy from your litter. I really do think its self explanatory but I just think I need some confirmation. My girl has 6 pups which are just over 6 weeks old and we are going to keep one of them. I am a firm believer that the pup picks you rather than the other way around.

There is one pup in the litter than is the most gorgeous wee thing and he is also the smallest. He also seems to be a popular one as everyone seems to have their eye on him.

Then there is the one that seems to want to interact with us, calls out to us, cries for us, my boy seeks him out to play with him (he is the daddy) and he just seems to fit in. Now this is the one that I think has picked us and my head is saying its the right decision to keep him.

But then our hearts also want to keep the pretty popular one. DH wants to keep the both of them but I have heard that it isn't good to keep from the same litter.

Should I go with my head or my heart?

Also is it not recommended to keep two from the same litter?

Thanks
