Dogs don't know how big a treat is. Really, they don't. I limit treats anyway, but I also cut the larger treats into smaller pieces. Partly because I'm frugal, but also because it just needs to be a treat, not an entire snacky-snack meal substitute.

We have a new puppy who responds really well to pettings, and doesn't care so much about treats. He'd rather we give him an ear rub and some attention. I'd rather give him an ear rub, too. It just feels so good to give him something that he adores and will work for. It warms my heart to get those squirmy puppy wiggles from the touch of my hand on his head.
