This is a touchy subject with many different opinions and thoughts. Each yorkie mom and dad should make an educated decision about what is best for their yorkie – which would include talking to their veterinarian.
With that said, I do give beef shank bones – cooked. Generally they are from shanks I use for making bone broth for both skin and fur members of my family. I only give cooked to minimize the risk of bacteria born illnesses (again personal preference after talking with Lollie and Lacie's vet). The shanks I use are a minimum of ¼” to ½” thick and I inspect them daily for wear. When I see any sign the bones are tossed. It is highly unlikely that a yorkie could splinter/break a bone that thick in the course of a day’s worth of chewing. But again, it is a personal choice. I have the added benefit

of being a stay at home yorkie mom, so I can intervene in the event of a crisis.
