I have no experience with gabapentin , but he may just be very sore even though he has not broken anything, poor wee thing , he must have got a fright as well. You must have a got such a fright yourself. You never know what they will get up to, my Alfie , who is 15 never goes on the top of my sofa but when he visits my mum that's his favourite place! I think it's because he gets a great view out of her window, we place lots of cushions around but it make me nervous when he goes on the top of the sofa. Hope your little one is on the mend , it may just take a little time for him to be fully pain free.
