Doesn't matter if he's not a show dog, a over weight dog is not a healthy dog, but a pound over weight is not an obese dog. More exercise, more walking, playing fetch, running and green beans to replace dog treats over a few months should show some results, also if he eats kibble and you measure it out (say you feed him 1/4 cup twice a day) take 3 or 4 pieces out of each feeding. I have to assume you have him on adult dog food. You will not see fast results but you will see a loss over several months.
