So he had his last dose of Heartguard on October 30th (I stagger every 45 days in the winter) and he began having chronic diarrhea from December 18th - January 22nd ish.

I determined that he may have a corn allergy through trial and error and Heartguard has corn in the ingredients. I *think* Nexgard does too but I may be remembering it wrong. So anyway I ultimately decided on Interceptor for heartworm preventative and hoped for the best. He had his first dose about a week ago and has been okay, thankfully.

My vet and Internal Med Specialist wanted me to use Revolution but that is a topical for heartworm AND fleas and I do not even have a problem with fleas, ever... but I do with ticks, therefore he would have had to been double dosed with a second flea/tick medicine and had a double dose of the flea stuff, when we didn't even NEED the flea protection to begin with - if that makes sense.

Anyway, I'd just prefer to be as cautious as possible and not mess anything up. If the Interceptor did not work out, I'd have been looking at the plain Heartgard unflavored pill, but it ONLY protects against heartworms (not hookworms, etc etc).

So long explanation to just say: I am mainly looking to help with repelling ticks when we go out on walks or to parks or dog events etc and keep anything I am putting in his digestive system to a minimum. Depending on the year, we sometimes don't even have issues with them. Like last year I only dosed him once in June and didn't see any ticks so ended up not giving him another dose until September. So it seems to just depend on the season.
Interceptor was my favorite but when it came back on the market my vet never started carrying it again and I’m lazy so I just stuck with heart guard plus the boys are picky so not sure if they would enjoy the switch. I have to be honest and wonder if worms are that often picked up by adult dogs. I’m glad it seems to have worked though. Callie can’t do lamb and ANY kind of diary or it’s a nightmare even goats milk messes her up bad. She also can’t seem to tolerate any oral antibiotic like there was diarrhea everywhere on my dressers the floor and all over her. Right now she has only needed the injection antibiotics for skin infections so I’m not sure what will happen if she needs it for something else. They also put her back on apoquel and it started messing her stomach up bad. It’s a nightmare now when people come over because I used to allow them to share certain foods with her but now it’s like omg don’t do that. You might just want to feel the season out first and if he isn’t getting any ticks you might not have to do anything.
