I have always free fed ours, and have never had an overweight dog. My three actually start the day with boiled chicken breast shreds on top of kibble, then graze throughout the day. They actually all stop by their bowls around noontime for "lunch", the eat some more when I am preparing our dinner. A mouthful on their way to bed, and they are happy campers!

That’s pretty much how I do it. I had to do the chicken to make sure Callie ate enough to take her meds.
