Our older pup, a Cairn Terrier, has been on heart worm meds her whole life but tested positive when she was five. The vet contacted the manufacturer and they paid for her treatments, which were hard on her. I would not want to have that happen again. She was on Heartguard at the time. My new Yorkie, Hope, hasn’t started her preventative yet. Curious what the vet will put her on. My Cairn now takes shots every six months. Hope is now four months old and goes for her third visit with the doctor tomorrow! Such a sweetie pie!

It’s actually pretty rare but it does happen. I personally would not do the shot it’s not proven to be very safe and has been pulled off the market before.
