Vomiting & Diarrhea Hi all - need some advice. Last night my little man Bailey (19 months old) was super whiny and distressed. Could not settle etc
I also noticed that he had an irregular heartbeat and was shaking a little.
About 3.30am this morning he went to the bathroom and demonstrated diarrhea, but seemed to be feeling better afterwards. Then an hour later I woke up to him hunched over and heaving. He vomited/regurgitated a small palm sized amount of chunky, brown liquid. (I would say this was approx 8 hours after he last ate. Afterwards he was quiet and clingy, but seemed ok again. He was no longer shaking and went to sleep happily snuggled up in my lap.
Then a few hours later he vomited again, without warning. It was less chunky and a slightly lighter color this time. Then he went to the bathroom almost immediately afterwards - more watery stools.
I have withheld food so far today, and allowed only a little water to prevent dehydration. The diarrhea has continued into early afternoon although of course there is significantly less coming out. Every few hours or so he is dry heaving with very little liquid being expelled, which is now starting to look more like the yellow/bile like frothy vomit. After each occasion he seems almost back to normal, is playful and alert.
Usually I would be thinking about taking to the vet just to be safe, but I am currently stuck at home with a broken leg and cannot walk. In the night, trying to help him at speed, I also sprained my dominant wrist. Taking him to the vets like this is going to be tough and may distress him more than just riding it out at home.
Any thoughts or advice? |
