My son reacts the same way to sedatives, pain killers. Orthopedist gave him small dose of Demerol IM and then injected Novacaine locally at fracture site to set a broken thumb as a toddler and he went ballistic! They had to wrap him in sheets until it wore off to keep him from hurting himself. To this day as a grown man, he shys away from taking anything for pain or sedation other than ibuprofen. Don't know why but some systems just react differently to medications.
